Hi — I’m the old fart who started this place with my wife, Carol, back in March 2006. I’ve lived in Baja for almost 20 years, so let me dispel a few myths — and yes, I’m going to call B.S. where it belongs.
Let me call B.S. on some of the things you might have heard about Baja. Bottom line: it’s safe — safer than California (in my experience). We lived in Orange County for 32 years. What little violence there is here is mostly Mexican-on-Mexican. There is almost no violence against foreigners. Mexico is like Chicago: it’s big. There are great areas and there are bad ones. Your area of Baja is one of the safest places on earth.
Medical care is great, cheap, and available. A typical private doctor visit is around $10–$20 USD, and you don’t have to “sell” a doctor to get a prescription.
Money: the Mexican banking system is one of the most stable in the world. It did not crash in 2007. Until recently, I was getting around 10% interest on my money (just about tax-free). Now it’s around 8%.
This old fart is tired of writing. If you want to learn more, call me — not email — or WhatsApp. I like to talk on the phone, and I’ve got plenty of time.
